The Port of Hueneme, Ventura County , will help alleviate the congestion that enters the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to serve Christmas shopping .

Hueneme Port Authorities has an agreement with the Ventura County Naval Base (NBVC ) to be able to use two buildings and a piece of land inside the base , reported this Sunday the Ventura County Star.

Base spokesman Drew Verbis indicated the port will be able to access Pier 3 of the Ventura County Naval Base, which is often used to dock warships .

The Ventura County Naval Base and the Port of Hueneme have the agreement since 2002 , but it will be the first time in more than a decade that it is activated.

Since the agreement was activated, in early November, the port was able to receive a large cargo ship and unload multiple containers of 40 feet full of merchandise , what that may help with the demand for Christmas shopping.

“This collaboration is in full force today, as we work together in the search for solutions to the crisis of the supply chain ”, expressed the director of the port of Hueneme and CEO, Kristin Decas, in a statement .

Although the port of Hueneme does not have the capacity to receive the huge freighters waiting to disembark in Los Angeles or Long Beach, can serve vessels that transport up to 1, 500 containers .

In the statement, It was reported that some container ships heading to Los Angeles docked at the port of Hueneme to unload part or all of their cargo.

The Pier 3 is only one of the five ports in the port area that are owned by the NBVC.

It was indicated that the additional land that is available In the agreement it will be used to distribute the containers that are received in Hueneme in order to receive more cargo .

The Hueneme port will be responsible for providing the human material to moor and unload the containers of the ships , and the NBVC will only provide the space for the port to operate.

Another benefit brought by the activation of the agreement is that the port of Hueneme had to hire additional personnel to be able to attend to the increased workload.

The port of Hueneme is owned by the Port District Oxnard.
