Brian Laundrie died of a gunshot wound to the head and his manner of death was suicide , according to a statement from the Laundrie family attorney.
The update on the manner and cause of Laundrie’s death came over a month after a autopsy of his remains , which were found in wetland areas in Florida’s Carlton Reservation on 20 October and identified as belonging to Laundrie on 21 October.
After an initial autopsy was performed last month, the family lawyer Steven Bertolino said that “the manner or cause of death was not determined” .
After that first inconclusive autopsy, an anthropologist Coroner has been analyzing Laundrie’s remains.
Laundrie disappeared on 14 September, about two weeks after he returned to his home state of Florida, following the disappearance of his fiancee, Gabby Petito.
Petito’s parents reported the disappearance of his daughter of 22 years, the 11 September.
The Investigators named Laundrie a “person of interest” in Petito’s disappearance on 15 September.
The 17, investigators announced that they were looking for Laundrie and could not locate him. The FBI searched his home in North Port, Florida on 20 September.
A Wyoming federal court issued an arrest warrant for Laundrie on 23 September , two days after it was confirmed that the remains found in a camp in the Bridger-Teton National Forest were those of Petito and it was ruled that his manner of death was a homicide.
He too 20 September, the North Port Police Department said they had “exhausted all avenues” registering the 25. 000 acres of swampy wilderness at the Carlton Reservation before resuming the search.
Finally, human remains were found Partials near items belonging to Laundrie one month later.
On 22, the FBI confirmed that the remains found in the Florida nature reserve belonged to Brian Laundrie.
