From tax aid for children and workers, tax reduction, support for the elderly and medical insurance, as well as immigration relief are part of the benefits that millions of Latinos can have with the Economic Plan Build Back Better (BBB – Reconstruir Mejor) passed last week in the House of Representatives.

The president of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), the representative Raúl Ruiz (California), and the Secretary of Health and Human Services of the United States,

Xavier Becerra , highlighted these and other benefits for the Latino community and urged the Senate to grant approval.

The social package approved in the House increased to more than $ 2 billion dollars, but the original plan is $ 1. 75 billions of dollars.

This would expand social programs aimed at minors and the elderly, as well as to dedicate $ 110, 000 millions to immigration matters, including a deportation waiver, Employment Authorization, among others.

The Chamber of Represe Ntantes approved the package last Friday, leaving the plan in the hands of the Senate, which is part of the priorities of the President’s Government Joe Biden .

In a conference call, Ruiz said the plan “will change the lives of hundreds of thousands of Latino families.” by creating jobs, cutting taxes and avoiding the separation of immigrant families.

Among some of the benefits are six with a direct impact on Latinos:

1. More jobs

2. Tax cut

3. Immigration benefits

4. Expansion of the Child Tax Credit (CTC)

5. Payment of reduced fees under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), better known as “Obamacare”

6. Receive help for their children’s preschool education

Becerra and Ruiz highlighted the benefits that the final approval of the law would bring about seven million undocumented persons to whom it would grant a work permit, would protect them of deportation and would allow them access to health insurance , among others.

“Giving immigrants access to the health system is a matter of public health and safety,” said Becerra.

Questioned On the future of the bill in the Senate, where Democrats plan to pass the law alone through reconciliation, Ruiz said the plan was approved by the House after several days of talks and negotiations in order to move forward with approval.

He also emphasized President Biden’s work to move this package forward.

In October Biden lowered the cost of his reform to convince Democratic Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, who opposed the idea to invest $ 3.5 billion in that plan.

Ruiz hopes that the plan will be approved to give a “Christmas gift” to Americans, but noted that everything depends on the Senate.

“We urge the Democratic senators to approve this plan,” concluded the Californian congressman.
