Tesla will recall 7, 600 vehicles in the United States due to an issue with their airbags. As reported by Reuters , the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has said that the problem is specifically related to the cushion of this passive safety system, which can break while it is deployed, preventing it from working properly and, therefore, expanding the risk of injury during a crash.

The recall involves two models of the company: Model X and Model S, but it only applies to models of the year 2021 . As is customary in these cases, Tesla will have to send announcements to each and every one of the owners of these cars so that they can schedule an appointment with their dealer and thus initiate the corresponding repairs. Until now, it is only known that the company must send the announcement by mail on January 7, 2022, with the hope that customers heed the call.

Market recalls are extremely common around the world and involve a strategy to maintain road safety . In this type of process, the main role of NHTSA is to ensure that the corresponding repairs are carried out in their entirety so as not to put lives at risk. When a manufacturer makes these recalls or recalls, the repairs or replacements of defective parts are at their own expense and the owner does not receive any additional charge for them.

Being a passive safety system like seat belts, air bags save many lives around the world , but they have also been removed, on some occasions, due to malfunctions. Although the case of Tesla is not similar, when it comes to defective airbags it is impossible not to remember the best known case of recall due to a failure in this system, which is associated with the Japanese brand Takata , whose defective airbags could suddenly go off, for no reason. According to the reported cases, the force was such that the air bag ended up spreading metal pieces or other materials that could cause death or very serious injuries. The recall associated with this brand continues and involves a large number of vehicles around the world that continue to pose a risk to people’s safety.
