Jury selection begins for the trial of the leader of La Luz del Mundo

Joaquín García, of 51 years, faces 19 felony charges including Forced rape of a minor , Forced oral copulation of a minor, illegal sexual relations , lewd act with a child and conspiracy and possession of child pornography , as well as other charges for crimes related to the abuse of his position as leader of the religious movement of Mexican origin.

Today’s hearing is considered prior and the next one was scheduled for 10 February At today’s hearing, held at the Criminal Justice Center of Los Angeles , Judge Ronald Coen reiterated some limitations to the way the trial will be conducted.

The lawsuit argues that Martín, from 33 years, she was recruited at the age of nine and became a “sex slave” for both Naasón Joaquín and her father, former leader of the church.

“During my first 30 years of life taught me to believe that my body, mind, and soul belonged to The Light of l World because that was God’s will, “said Martín at the press conference in which he announced the lawsuit.

” I denounce him today because this has to end. Generations of children raised in La Luz del Mundo have been forced to become sexual servants of the apostles of La Luz del Mundo ”, he stated.

The non-Trinitarian Christian church La Luz del Mundo, which has its international headquarters in Guadalajara, Mexico, was founded in 1926 by Aarón Joaquín, Naasón’s grandfather. It is currently present in 60 countries and claims to have up to 5 million followers.
