The Democrat Beto O’Rourke was about to beat the Republican senator Ted Cruz his position in Congress , but now he thinks he has enough scope to run for the Democratic nomination to govern Texas.

“I’m running for governor,” O tweeted. ‘Rourke, who despite having generated high expectations when he launched his presidential candidacy failed to stand out as the “rising star” of the Democratic Party .

Together we can overcome the petty and divisive politics we see in Texas today , and get back to having the big, bold vision that used to define Texas. A Texas big enough for everyone, ”he added.

The Democrat accompanied his message with a video that began with the electrical crisis in February in the state, when Senator Cruz decided to travel to Cancun and had to return to public pressure. O’Rourke does not mention Cruz directly, but speaks of those who “abandoned the Texans.”

“Last February, when the power grid It failed and millions of fellow Texans were left without electricity, which meant that the lights turned on, the heating did not work, and very soon their pipes froze and the water stopped flowing, they were abandoned by those who were chosen to serve and care for them ”, said the Democrat. “It’s a symptom of a much bigger problem in Texas right now, those in positions of public trust have stopped listening, serving, paying attention and trusting the people of Texas.”

O’Rourke also accuses that there are “extremist policies” in the entity, in the middle of Governor Greg Abbott’s controversy over abortion and the persecution of immigrants.

He also mentions the danger of expanding gun rights, but supports the legalization of marijuana and the expansion of Medicaid in the entity.

The Latino vote will be key for the Democrat, but it has not managed to fully convince those voters, as happened in 2018 when he ran for Senate. O’Rourke has been criticized for reaching out to Latinos with his name “Beto”, but speaks fluent Spanish .
