Egypt is home to the subspecies known as Fat Tail Scorpions, which is one of the deadliest in the world. The venom of these arachnids turns out to be potentially lethal for humans, especially in those with health problems, since neurotoxic components are very fast acting in the body and attack the central nervous system, causing paralysis and respiratory failure.

This type of arachnid measures between 3 and 4 inches in length, inhabit arid, semi-arid environments, desert, tropical, subtropical and temperate regions with sandy soils. During the hottest hours of the day they are kept in burrows, under wood and stones, as well as in crevices, construction debris and inside homes.

They are nocturnal predators. Among its most common foods are some species of spiders, lizards, various types of insects, rodents, and other scorpions.
