Jaime Munguía needed such a performance. Facing an uncomfortable and fanged opponent such as Puerto Rican Gabriel Rosado , the Mexican fighter elevated his boxing to take the win by unanimous decision and set foot in what must be a great 2022 for him.

The still young boxer from Tijuana (25 years) dominated Rosado with accurate combinations and enormous production of blows, which was awarded by the judges when the middleweight fight reached the other shore, something that at times seemed unlikely. Munguía improved to a record of 38 – 0 (30 KOs) thanks to the ballots of 118 – 110, 119 – 109 and 111 – 111.

Many of the fans at the Anaheim Honda Center were constantly on their feet in this best-of-the-year candidate fight because almost every round there was a lot of action and brutal exchanges between two men with very different routes: the Mexican defending his perfect brand but needed to some extent to like, and the man born in Philadelphia far from the major leagues of the boxing, but with nothing to lose and with enough skills to trip his rival, 10 years younger than him.

Munguía knew how to respond showing hunger and quality. According to DAZN, it connected 70 from 238 jabs, 238 of 293 power blows and you hit 38 body shots, while Rosado had 38 of 258 jabs, 119 of 293 power blows and 14 to the body.

The progress of Munguía from the hand of “Terrible” Morales

“He was a great opponent tonight, he made me struggle a bit with hugs; made me learn, but I think it was a great fight, which was liked by all the people ”, he said Munguía, who explained that in the final stretch of the fight he had to make some adjustments such as fighting more closely and throwing more at Rosado’s body.

Erik “Terrible” Morales , his compatriot’s coach, asked him not to lower his left hand because the rights of Rosado, who although heavily punished never ceased to be dangerous, were entering and causing damage. But Munguía clearly dominated. His volume of blows was very high and the speed of his combinations was impressive to pierce Rosado’s decent defense and leave his face very damaged.

“Three, four, six hits in a row, he’s a very tough fighter who comes from the 168 pounds, very strong, my respects to Gabriel Rosado ”, added Munguía.

There were no takedowns, although in round 7 both fighters went to the mat when Rosado, who was constantly pushing

Rounds 9 and 10 were the best of the night, with incessant activity on both sides and level assaults. But Munguía, who seemed to win at least six of the first eight episodes, put order in the 11 to ensure the victory.
