'Isaiah was a very sweet boy'

Little Isaiah Suárez Rodríguez was a fan of video games and sports. His favorite teams included the Dodgers, Lakers and Raiders. His dream was to become a chef when he grew up. He was known as a very homely child who enjoyed family parties and spending time with his cousins.

However, all the energy radiated by the youngest of 12 years went out after he and his sister Alexa Suarez Rodríguez, aged 19, were victims of a crash where a truck struck the car in which they were traveling on November 3 in the city of South Gate.

The incident occurred around 3: 55 pm, near the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and San Juan Avenue where the speed limit is 35 miles per hour. However, the impact occurred with such force that it threw Alexa’s vehicle at least 75 feet away, explained Pamela Suarez, the children’s aunt, in a fundraising account. fund he opened on GoFundMe.

The South Gate Police Department said in a statement that it responded to the incident and confirmed that one of the vehicles was overturned and that it had caused injuries to those involved.

“Although the investigation is still ongoing, speeding is believed to have been a contributing factor to the accident and the South Gate Police Department is committed to conducting a thorough and complete investigation.” added the statement.

Pamela said the South Gate Fire Department arrived within minutes of the accident. Alexa was brought to safety by a Good Samaritan and someone else tried to free Isaiah but because the door was jammed they couldn’t.

The firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to get the boy out of the rubble and were taken to a nearby hospital.

Isaiah passed away in the hospital that same night. While, Alexa suffered from various broken bones and injuries. She was hospitalized for a few days and is currently under recovery and rehabilitation, explained her Aunt Pamela.

This week, almost seven days after the accident, the South Gate authorities reported that the truck, which apparently was traveling At high speed it was driven by an off-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy (LASD).

The LASD regretted what happened and sent condolences to Isaiah’s family.

Grace Medrano, a sheriff’s deputy, said via email that the case is currently being investigated by the South Gate Police Department, and until their investigation is complete, they are unable to offer further comment.

Pamela said on the GoFundMe page that Isaiah was a very special boy. His favorite cartoons were the Kung Fu Panda series and Toy Story. He also enjoyed action movies, especially Marvel and DC.

“One of the sweetest kids you want to meet. He had a soft voice, a tender touch, and an infectious laugh. He was always the first to help, especially those in need, ”said the aunt.

She explained that Isaiah attended South East Middle School and previously Madison Elementary, both in

South Gate.

“He absolutely loved his friends, teachers and principal,” he said. “Thank you all for your friendship and teaching that contributed to him being a fantastic child, even becoming a mathematical magician.”

He added that his sister-in-law Betsabe Suarez, the child’s mother, is a Single mom who struggles to cover household expenses but always makes sure her children have everything they need.

“The emotional toll has been devastating. With your help, we hope to alleviate part of their financial burden ”, explained the children’s aunt.

She asserted that all the funds raised will go directly to the expenses of Isaiah’s funeral as well as the hospital and rehabilitation
