In the world of sports, comparisons are the order of the day. When it comes to nations, there is always the question of the best athletes in each discipline who carry the country’s banner . In this sense, Andrés Manuel López Obrador , President of Mexico, congratulated Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and Sergio “Checo” Pérez for his performances this weekend. However, he got into muddy ground by entering the hideous comparisons.

Congratulate Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez who won a fight (against Caleb Plant) and ‘Checo’ Pérez who occupied third place in the Formula One Grand Prix of Mexico City ”, expressed the president in his recurring morning conference.

However, everything was going well until he started to mention other surnames in his speech . AMLO tried to find the “heirs to the throne” of each of the Mexican sports legends.

Julio Cesar Chavez and there is ‘Canelo’; Fernando Valenzuela and there is Julio Urías; Hugo Sánchez, one of the greats, there are also footballers following in his footsteps ”, stated López Obrador.

Of these comparisons, perhaps the most questionable is the by Julio César Chávez with Saúl Álvarez . This has been stated by different personalities linked to boxing who question the possibility that Canelo exceeds or at least equal what the “Great Mexican Champion” meant.

Finally, the president of Mexico closed his idea with a reflective message in relation to sport and, punctually, to the Aztec athletes who represent the Mexican colors in the world.

“Everything that is sport must be promoted, promoted and always recognize the outstanding athletes from Mexico. We must always remember them and support everything that is sport, “he concluded.
