Ambush leaves two police officers dead and six injured in Mexico
Police officers Germán Urbina Velázquez and Pedro Martínez Quezada died and six others were injured when they were ambushed by men armed after having carried out operations in the municipality of Texcatitlán, in the State of Mexico, in the metropolitan area in the center of the country.
“This Thursday afternoon elements of the Prosecutor’s Office General of Justice of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) clashed with armed men in the municipality of Texcaltitlán , after several operational actions in that area “, the entity detailed in a statement.
On Contingent of the Prosecutor’s Office repelled an attack when they were moving along the La Puerta-Coatepec highway, in the community of Ojo de Water.
“The mobilization carried out by the FGJEM was aimed at identify surveillance points and safe houses of the criminal group Familia Michoacana in that region of the entity “, added the agency.
In addition to the two agents, who belonged to the Investigative Police, the Prosecutor’s Office detailed that another “subject” who was transferred to the institution’s facilities also lost the life .
“This individual had been detained with communication devices and he was investigated for performing ‘hawking’ (or informant) functions ”, they specified.
After the confrontation, federal forces and state officials deployed an operation in the area. Among the tasks that are being carried out is the tracking of hospitals in the region due to the possibility that suspects have had to enter due to injuries.

“ The families of the Investigative police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, as well as the six injured will receive all the backing and support of this institution “, concluded the statement.
Mexico recorded the two most violent years in its history in the first 24 months in office of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador , with 34, 689 murder victims in 2019 and 26, 558 on 2020.
While the country accumulates 26, 392 Intentional homicides between January and September of 2021, a 3-4% year-on-year reduction compared to the same period of the previous year.
