The School Board of Orange County, Florida, removed a man who spoke at Tuesday’s meeting for using vulgar language after he read a passage from a sexually explicit book that is available in high school libraries.

In a video recorded by Alicia Farrant, who is part of the organization Moms for Liberty (Mothers for Freedom), Board President Teresa Jacobs can be seen directing police officers to remove the speaker while reading an excerpt from Gender Queer: A memoir .

“I am going to read a passage from a book that is in your schools and that has been banned in many other schools . As a member of the LGBT community, the fact that it is available for ninth grade children is worrying ”, he said Jacob Engels, the retired speaker, explains Orange Observer .

Engels read a scene from the book that described sexual acts using strap-on devices before Jacobs intervened.

“Sir. Engels, he’s off duty… get him off the cameras, ”she said. Jacobs continued: “I understand that the book is in the classroom and the language you just read is not appropriate for this forum. I understand the contradiction here. This is the first time I have heard about this and the board has heard about it. We will look into it and hope the book will be withdrawn. Agree? If not, we will come back here to have this conversation again, but I can guarantee you that I was unaware of the existence of this book in the library ”, he commented about it.

Orange County Public Schools Director of Media Relations Shari Bobinski told Orange Observer that the school board did not know that the book was available in school libraries. Bobinski said there were four copies of the book in three of the 22 district high schools.

“At this time, the book is not on the library shelves and is under review. If anyone has a concern about materials or books found in our media centers or in our classrooms, Orange County Public Schools has a process for parents to or tutors submit a form to the school principal to address a concern , ”he said.

That same book caused a similar stir in Virginia this week when several television stations they refused to air an ad showing the same sexually explicit scene that Engels read, citing a federal law that prohibits the transmission of pornographic images.
