Amnesty International (AI) has requested a meeting with the Premier League to discuss the policies for accepting owners in the competition after the sale of Newcastle United .
The English club has been acquired by a Saudi fund linked to the country’s government, questioned for its crimes against human rights as the dismemberment of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi embassy in Istanbul.

The president of Amnesty International in the United Kingdom, Sacha Deshmukh, has written to the executive president of the Premier, Richard Masters , requesting a meeting to discuss changes in owner policies and competition presidents.
“The way in which the Premier League has allowed this agreement opens many questions about image washing in the sport , human rights and integrity in English football, ”said Deshmukh.
Amnesty International sent a message to the Premier League, showing its disagreement over the sale of Newcastle to the PIF, which is managed by Mohammed bin Salman

“How can it be okay that current Premier League policies say nothing about human rights? Soccer is a global sport that needs to update its rules to prevent those involved in violations of human rights can buy their way into English football ”, he added.
As explained by the Premier League, it received “judicial guarantees” that Saudi Arabia will not control the club, so it was able to give the green light to the operation.
