El Salvador will start mining bitcoin with the energy of volcanoes

President Nayib Bukele , has bet on his political future by clinging to the bitcoin nationwide. From his Twitter account Bukele wrote that it is about the country’s effort in bitcoin mining powered by the energy of a volcano.

On Tuesday , the president posted a video of Government-branded shipping container filled with bitcoin mining equipment where technicians are seen installing and connecting ASIC systems on the edge of a volcano.

The video has gone viral and has more than 3.1 million views to titled “First Steps.”

Apparently Bukele is fulfilling a promise that he announced in June when he instructed the state geothermal power company, LaGeo SA to CV of putting “ a plan to offer infrastructure to perform Bitcoin mining with cheap, clean energy, and 100% renew able “.

Bukele noted in his tweet that the mining project is still a work in progress and they are still “testing and installing” new equipment .

Bitcoin mining with the use of geothermal energy

Other countries such as Iceland have been mining through energy that comes from within the earth . In El Salvador, a country that is known as “the land of volcanoes”, geothermal energy represents almost a quarter of its national production .

The announcement is released just a few weeks after El Salvador became the first country to declare bitcoin as legal tender .

The country has launched a virtual wallet called “Chivo ” that offers commission-free transactions and allows fast payments.
