The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to require large supermarket chains and pharmacies to make an extra payment of $ 5 dollars per hour to store workers located in unincorporated areas of the county.
The initiative, which was called “ Hero Pay ”by its creators, the supervisor Hilda Solís and supervisor Holly J. Mitchell , will ask supermarkets and pharmacies with more than 300 employees nationwide and with more than 10 employees per store, payable $ 5 extra dollars per hour during 120 days.

“ The COVID pandemic – 19 has made clear the importance of employees in the essential retail industry such as supermarkets and pharmacies . Since the pandemic began, they have continued working and exposing themselves to the virus, ”said supervisor Hilda Solís in a statement.
He also cited a Brookings Institution report that indicates that on average supermarket chains saw an increase of one 40 Extra% on your earnings of 2020 , plus an increase of 33% in the value of their shares , while essential workers receive minimum wages, reduced hours and are constantly exposed to the virus.
