All against all: MLS and Liga MX teams will face each other in 2023 in the Leagues Cup

North American football will begin a new chapter in its history from the season 2023 , when all clubs in the Major League Soccer and the Liga MX will face each other in an annual competition lasting one month, which It is called Leagues Cup .

With the arrival of summer both leagues will paralyze their activities to carry out the championship where will face 48 teams . The league also seeks to show the sports infrastructure of the region, facing the World Cup of the 2026, to be carried out between United States, Canada and Mexico.

FIFA Vice President and Cocacaf President Victor Montagliani met with the Commissioner of MLS, Don Gerber and the president of the MX LEAGUE, Mikel Arriola , to make the announcement through a press conference.

The Leagues Cup will be an official Cocacaf competition, and its champion will win a direct pass to the Champions League , while those who finish second and third will qualify for the first round.

This competition will also make history as the first major soccer tournament with the participation of all the clubs belonging to two top-level leagues.

“In the Leagues Cup all MLS and Liga MX clubs will compete in a one-month tournament, which will set new standards about what’s possible for our two leagues, and being able to show more of our players and clubs to a global audience , ”said Don Garber, MLS Commissioner , during the press conference.
