The Ministry of Health of Mexico reported 224 new deaths from COVID – 19 for a total of 267, 748 deaths, plus another 5, 139 new cases to reach 3, 567, 882 infections, during the current third wave of the pandemic in the country.

With these records, Mexico remains the fourth country with the most deaths by

COVID – 19 behind the United States, Brazil and India, and 15th in number of confirmed infections, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.

The country surpassed 3.5 million accumulated cases s since the beginning of the pandemic amid the third wave of infections, which has affected the country for three months.

But the health authorities affirmed last Tuesday that Mexico adds four consecutive weeks with an accelerated reduction of estimated positive cases of
COVID – 19 .

The health authorities recognize that, based on the death certificates, the pandemic would be around 400, 000 deceased in the country and they estimate that Mexico actually accumulates 3, 723, 390 cases of contagion.

Of this figure, 90, 400 are active cases, which have exhibited symptoms during the last 18 days. In addition, 2 have recovered since the beginning of the pandemic, 853,567 persons . Currently, eight of the 26 states are on alert for a general hospital occupancy greater than 50%.

Vaccination plan

The authorities also indicated that the vaccination program, which contemplates all those older than 18 years, has exceeded 90 million doses of vaccine applied, with three consecutive days with more than 800 , 000 injections.

The report also specified that close to 40 millions of people have completed the vaccine schedule tion, of the total of 126 million inhabitants of the country.

On Thursday, Mexico received 224, 150 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and 1, 390, 600 doses of AstraZeneca. On Wednesday they arrived 585, 04 doses of Pfizer.

Since the end of December 2020, the country has received 106. 38 million doses of the Anglo-Swedish vaccines AstraZeneca, the Russian Sputnik V, the US companies Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna, in addition to the Chinese CanSino and Sinovac.

The Mexican government estimated days ago that at the end October will have received more than 120 million doses and a total 150 million by the end of the 2021.
