Storm Nicholas will cause heavy rains in Tamaulipas and much of northeastern Mexico on Monday. In addition, it could become a hurricane just before touching the United States, according to the National Water Commission (Conagua) in a statement .
“ Nicholas will cause very strong occasional rains (from 50 to 75 mm) in Tamaulipas ; strong (from 25 to 50 mm) in regions of Puebla and Veracruz, and intervals of showers (from 5 to 25 mm) in Nuevo León and San Luis Potosí ”, reads the official document.
Currently the storm has maximum sustained winds from 95 kilometers per hour and rapidly moving north at 19 Km / h . According to the National Weather Service (SNM), the center of Nicholas is located 70 kilometers northeast of the mouth of Rio Large, border between Mexico and the United States.
“ The rains could cause landslides, increase in the levels of rivers and streams, and overflows and floods in low-lying areas “, the statement continues. Likewise, they urge the population to be attentive to the warnings of the SNM and Conagua to avoid human losses.
So far this year, five hurricanes have formed in the Atlantic basin , Elsa, Grace, Henri, Ida and Larry, of which Grace, Ida and Larry reached the highest category, 3 or more .
While cyclones Andrés, Blanca, Carlos, Dolores, Enrique have formed in the Pacific Ocean , Felicia, Guillermo, Hilda, Ignacio, Jimena, Kevin, Linda, Marty, Nora and Olaf. Dolores made landfall in mid-June and left three dead in electrical storms .
While in mid-August the torrential rains generated by Hurricane Grace, formed in the Atlantic and made landfall in the Gulf of Mexico, caused the death of at least 13 people, eight in the eastern state of Veracruz and three in the central state of Puebla, in addition to severe flooding and damage .
The cyclone had impacted days before in the Yucatan peninsula, where it also left floods and power failures, although without fatalities
While Nora, who made landfall on 28 left a minor dead in the state of Jalisco and seven disappeared, six of them fishermen from the state of Guerrero.
