'Jaripeo sin Fronteras' is a family affair

The Aguilar family comes recharged and willing to show that the time they were confined in their ranch in Zacatecas due to the pandemic was well used.

Pepe, Ángela and Leonardo Aguilar, are the stars of Jaripeo sin Fronteras, the musical and equestrian show that has toured stages in Mexico and the United States and whose new edition will resume the path at the Honda Center in Anaheim, in California, this weekend.

“You start to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” Leonardo said in an interview from the family ranch. “You can already see traces of a relatively normal life.”

And for this reason, Pepe –the patriarch of the clan–, could not be happier. The show, which had a successful tour in 2018 and 2019, returns not only renewed and with new visual and technological elements, but with an Angela and a Leonardo more prepared, more mature and with more artistic experience on their shoulders.

Leonardo, who along with his father recorded a series of videos with him title From the Roof –because the family, to shovel boredom during the pandemic, made this space of the house a recording set–, now comes with new songs –some written by himself–, and many more verve.

“Apart from being a little older, I feel that I have improved a lot as an artist,” said the boy from 22 years. “During the pandemic I have been preparing a lot for this return, and this return marks a new beginning in my life, as an artist, as a singer, as a horseman, as a composer.”

Something similar will happen with Ángela , who is a few months away from turning 18 years.

“He did not change his image; She is a young woman who has many possibilities and uses them well, ”said Pepe. “You see more of a woman every time, and she has class, so why not wear what you wear.”

Both Angela and Leonardo will be celebrating as well 10 years since they released their first album. She was 7 years old and he 12 when they told their father that they wanted to dedicate themselves to singing.

But above all, the purpose of Jaripeo sin Fronteras is “to reconnect with our Latin American and pre-Hispanic roots,” said Pepe. “And that we can also connect with our roots, which are our strength.”

Each one will shine in their own way, and Pepe will do it as he knows how best to do it, with his songs. The 53 artist, recording independently since 2000 A few weeks ago, he premiered “Traigo ganas” –also the title of his new album– and “Tus despcios”; the latter did so together with El Fantasma, one of the most successful Mexican music performers of these times. The video clip, which came out at the end of May, has almost 13 million views on YouTube.

“My dad is recording unreleased songs,” said Leonardo. “His album is a very ranchero album; He is going to be the father of all the Mexican regional singers; He’s going to be the biggest dog of all. ”

And the children hope to follow that path, because Angela remembers that since they started their career, she and her brother set out to give relevance again to regional Mexican music, which by then was quite relegated, according to what they say.

“We wanted young people to listen to regional Mexican music again and we have succeeded “Angela said.

” But my dad has always told us that this is about making good music, no matter the genre, “said Leonardo. “And we are here to make good music.”
