Oswaldo Sánchez confessed that he still wakes up crying for the goal conceded by Maxi Rodríguez

The Mexican team that played in the World Cup in Germany 2006 may have been one of the most competitive and with a better team, however, they could not pass the round of 16, as they ran into the powerful eleven of Argentina. The game was resolved by Maxi Rodríguez with a goal from a mid-court volley , and Oswaldo Sánchez, the goalkeeper who received it, confessed that he still remembers it and even wakes up crying sometimes for that goal.

The former goalkeeper recalled in an interview with Adela Micha how he experienced that goal received and what happened to his head to see that nothing could be done to prevent the score that became one of the most spectacular goals of that World Cup.

The goalkeeper explained that it is very difficult to be able to do something after you do not see the ball , and in that little period of time, in which the player hits the ball, it is already very difficult to recover as a goalkeeper and to be able to solve.

“For the goalkeeper it is very difficult to react and when you do not see the ball go out since it is kicked It is more difficult and that happened ”, confessed Sánchez.

“ Gonzalo (Pineda) got in the ball’s trajectory and Maxi Rodríguez’s shot, I lost that thousandth of second and I see it until it passes by Gonzalo’s side and I can no longer take that step that would have given me the chance to get that ball ”, explained regretting not having been able to do something else.

After his explanation he commented that that goal hurt him because in his career he had taken more difficult balls that those and that even today he has nightmares for not having been able to change that action that would have meant a historical classification for Mexico, since the ‘Tri’ was superior.

“I had taken more difficult balls than that. Yes, it still hurts, suddenly I dream and I wake up crying because I remember that image because it could be something transcendent “, he concluded.
