General Motors 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine production has stopped . This is supported by a report by The Fast Lane Truck, quoted in The Drive, which points to a single responsible: the global parts shortage crisis. The company had already been suffering from this problem in regards to the supply of semiconductor chips, which has been so erratic that it led to a slowdown on its full-size pickup truck production a few weeks ago . Now it was the turn of this engine that represents a propulsion option for some of its trucks and SUVs, but also for some models of Chevy, GMC and Cadillac, its subsidiaries.

Although at first this problem was not confirmed by the company, The Drive specifies that this decision comes from a notification that General Motors sent to its dealers on last 27 August and on which reports on the problem in the supply of parts, a problem that is affecting the availability of this engine. Days later, a spokesperson confirmed the problem and stated that it is something temporary that could be resolved at any time as the supply normalizes.

The shortage of parts, including semiconductor chips, is a problem derived from the pandemic that has ended up affecting all companies to a greater or lesser extent. Until a few weeks ago, the manufacturer that had most resisted this problem was Toyota, which had been prepared with some reserves of this material, but recently stated that its production would be reduced by 80% . A few months ago, Ford also went through the same situation when it had to stop production of the Bronco 2021, its flagship SUV that has become one of the most anticipated vehicles of the year, but also one of the most delayed .

Until now, the problem will not affect the gasoline engines produced by this General Motor, a company that is also making incredible advances in everything related to electricity, advances that may will be touched very soon when it will be fully revealed the new all-electric Chevrolet Silverado, a truck that will come to compete with others in this segment such as the F – 40 Ford Lightning, Rivian R1T or Tesla Cybertruck, another truck that has presented serious delays since it was revealed in 2019 .
