Mexico’s tragic loss to the United States in the Gold Cup final 2021 had two people as its main protagonist: Gerardo “Tata” Martino and Miles Robinson . The first for not finding the formula for El Tri to be effective, and the second for scoring the American winning goal. Curiously, both are connected.
“Tata” Martino was the coach who made his debut for United States center-back Miles Robinson as a professional player. It was in April of , when the Argentine strategist led Atlanta United in the MLS.
Robinson became a relatively common player in the games of the Atlanta team, which ended up winning the MLS title that year .
Subsequently, Martino received the offer of the Mexican team and became the new coach of Tri. He won the Gold Cup of that has lost the two disputed finals.
First fell in the Concacaf Nations League. It was a painful fall, but not as much as it was this Sunday in Las Vegas.
Mexico succumbed to the alternative team of the United States, in the final minutes of extra time … and with a goal by Miles Robinson , who was a fixed of the North American rear throughout the Gold Cup.
For Martino, it was surely the “worst” of the possible reunions with his ex-directed. And for the Mexican team, a nightmare that they will carry until they take revenge against their classic rival.
