A Mexican citizen died of head injuries after falling from the border fence that divides the United States de México in the Otay Mesa, California sector, federal authorities told local media.
The incident occurred last Sunday in the afternoon, reported the newspaper San Diego Union Tribune.
An agent operating the Border Patrol surveillance cameras detected three people trying to cross a fence about a mile and a half west of the Otay Mesa port of entry, alerting field officers.
The Patrol agents who responded to the call found a person near a secondary fence. When they were detaining the migrant, the officer heard a loud noise and then saw an unconscious man lying on the ground at one end of the border fence , according to a statement from the United States Customs and Border Protection Office ( CBP ), quoted by the newspaper.
Immediately Federal authorities called for help from the emergency service. San Diego Fire and Rescue Department paramedics confirmed the man was dead when they arrived.
The San County Medical Examiner’s Office Diego told the newspaper that the man died of blunt head injuries.
The name of the deceased migrant will not be revealed until his relatives in Mexico are notified.
The rescues of have increased in the last days. Eight illegal immigrants were rescued last weekend in separate events in the Jacumba Wilderness region, CBP said in a statement Wednesday.
