Hawaii tsunami alert canceled after strong 8.2-magnitude Alaskan earthquake
The US authorities suspended the tsunami warning that had emitted hours before, after registering a strong earthquake of magnitude 8.2 off the Aleutian Islands Alaska (USA).
The United States National Geological Survey (USGS) indicated that the tremor was registered around 15: 15 Wednesday local time (06: 22 Thursday GMT ) in Sandpoint waters in the eastern Aleutians, at a depth of 32 kilometres.

Although earthquakes at that depth are felt less strongly than the more superficial, the National Weather Service tsunami warning system had issued a watch warning for the Hawaiian Islands, about 4 , 000 kilometers distance.
“Based on all available data there is no threat of a tsunami for the state of Hawaii (and) therefore, the alert for Hawaii is canceled, ”the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center announced in a tweet.

Currently the forecasts of said center are that in Hawaii could produce tsunami waves less than 30 centimeters not to cause damage.
The 8.2 magnitude earthquake was accompanied by a score of minor tremors and different depths in the same region, about 120 kilometers from Chignik (Alaska), among which the next strongest reached a magnitude of 6.2 and whose hypocenter was recorded at 42 kilometers from the surface.

According to preliminary seismic data, the largest of these earthquakes could have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter and could have caused slight or moderate damage, but it is a very sparsely populated area.

It is estimated that the tremors may have been felt moderately in Perryville, town of a hundred inhabitants located about 100 kilometers from the epicenter, and in Chignik, to 115 kilometers and with only 87 population.
