Recently a Texas judge stopped new applications for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
This was yet another blow to the dreams of many young people who qualified for that benefit.
Just a few months ago we had celebrated that The Supreme Court of the Nation indicated that the now former President Donald Trump had interrupted the program in a capricious and arbitrary way. This ruling gave the green light to new requests.
I remember the joy I felt when I heard the news. Now, again that program is put on hold and by doing so they stop the potential and the contributions that the beneficiaries would have brought to the country. When laws are based on prejudice rather than reason, not only the future of those who are directly affected is frustrated but also that of their families and society in general.
The immigrant community is young, while those who create the rules are mostly elderly. By denying them the opportunity to have a work permit, they are leaving vacant positions for teachers, doctors, engineers and professionals.
There is a saying that those who they give away happiness they cannot avoid themselves. The same is true of those who destroy futures. By hindering the potential of our young people, they are leaving their own children without teachers and their parents without someone to take care of them.
Like it or not country needs energy and youth from our migrant force. The dreamers have lived in the shadows, it is completely unfair and inhumane to try to send them back to that limbo after they have seen the sunlight.
Life in the shadows is very difficult and slowly kills the spirit. To live as a hostage in this country, without status, is to slowly drown.
I remember how tired I felt with every setback I suffered in my attempt to adjust my immigration status. Therefore, I not only understand the suffering of the Dreamers but it also offends me personally.
I want to carry an optimistic message, despite how dark the horizon looks after this new attack. I want you to know that you are not alone, this is not the end of your dreams, but simply another stumble on the road.
Better times will come . You are in the best position to make a change that is necessary and urgent. Encourage all those who qualify to be citizens to do so.
Politicians are not willing to invest their capital in us. We have to increase the number of citizens willing to vote for laws that favor us.
Someday, those who go out of their way to prevent our dreams will understand that by doing so they are damaging their own future.
And you, what do you think? Should those who came here as children without documents be given the opportunity to fulfill their goals? Please leave us your comment.
