McCormick recalls four seasonings from retail stores over possible salmonella contamination

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Tuesday that McCormick is recalling four seasoning products from retail stores for possible salmonella contamination. The recalled products are Perfect Pinch Italian Seasoning, McCormick Culinary Italian Seasoning, Culinary Italian Seasoning and Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Ranch Seasoning.

The Hunt Valley, Maryland-based company said that as of Wednesday there have been no cases of the disease related to the withdrawal of seasonings .

Although there is not a complete list of stores that have sold the affected products, retailers such as Walmart, Target and Kroger announced on their web pages that these products were for sale in their branches . The affected products were sent to 32 states other than Bermuda and Canada between the 20 June and 21 July, the food company reported.

The states that received the condiments are:

Alabama, California, Colorado, Connecticut , Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

“McCormick has alerted customers and grocery stores to recall products with codes affected date of the shelves of stores and distribution centers immediately, “said the company, adding that if you have any of the seasonings, you must destroy them to avoid their consumption.

What causes salmonella?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the majority of people who get salmonella develop diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps between six hours and six days after being exposed to the bacteria . The illness usually lasts four to seven days and most people recover without treatment.

Withdrawals of the month

In July, different products were withdrawn from the market, including Neutrogena and Aveeno sunscreens , Chicken Tyson, Walmart muffins and more recently organic carrots Grimmway Farms among the most recalled products.
