According to the adolescent, and without specifying the date, the attack occurred around midnight when he was about to swim with his travel companion on the beach of the Hotel Marriott Resort , located on the coast of the Mexican state of Jalisco.
Before reaching the water, the reptile came out of the ocean , bit her right leg and threw her into the sea.
At that moment, Sarah Laney , originally from St. Louis, heard Hummel screaming, so she and her friends ran to help him .
“Honestly I will never forget when the crocodile’s head came out of the water. I just went into a state of shock, “said Hummel in an interview with ABC7 News.
Double crocodile attack
The young woman mentioned that she was able to remain calm, even when the crocodile dragged her under the water . She kept hitting the reptile as hard as she could until she released her limb.
Kiana added that she had almost escaped when the animal bit her again , on that second occasion on her left ankle, and again she was dragged under the water.
“I only remember saying ‘please don’t leave me’. I didn’t think it was going to come out that second time. It was really bad, “recalled Hummel, who recently graduated from High School in Marin.
Fortunately, the group of people who helped Hummel managed to get the crocodile to release her again, and finally moved her to another safer place .
The ambulance took 45 minutes to arrive
According to Laney’s statements, the ambulance took about 45 minutes to reach the place where Kiana was.
The young woman from California had injuries in the muscles and tissues up to the bones of the legs , so at the moment he cannot walk.
Kiana’s mother, Ariana Martínez, immediately traveled from San Francisco to Puerto Vallarta as soon as she found out about the acts.
Martínez stated that the hospital where they received his daughter demanded the payment of thousands of dollars before treating her .
Regarding the attack suffered by Hummel, representatives of the Hotel Marriott Resort in Puerto Vallarta reported that the safety of their guests and associates is their main priority , and they confirmed that there is adequate signaling, with red flags in place, and that they carry out a night patrol.
However, Hummel, Martínez and Laney considered that the hotel did not give sufficient warning to its guests about the risk of being attacked by a crocodile on the beach, and that they only found out about the respective signage after the fact, highlighting that it was very small and not being illuminated at night.
