It will be this Tuesday when the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors vote on a pilot program that contemplates awarding $ 1, 204 per month a 80 residents between 18 and 24 years during the next three years .
Last May, supervisors approved the proposal to launch a guaranteed income pilot program .
Resources will be delivered to youth in the county currently receiving general aid benefits and participate in TAYportunity , a special employment program for residents of 18 to 24 years seeking employment this year, and which is driven by the Department of Public Social Services.
The purpose of the Board and s financially support a sector of the population that has historically faced economic and social inequalities .

This program seeks to ensure that young people do not have any problems in their development as part of the community as they have economic stability.
The motion to be presented this Tuesday was written by the President of the Board, Hilda Solís, and by the supervisor Janice Hahn .
The document is based on a report from the Department of Public Social Services in which the benefits for implementing projects with guaranteed income.
Way forward
The document’s roadmap includes the request to the director of the Department to present a plan to the Board within the pr ximos 45 days for the creation of this pilot program of three years that includes a support of $ 1, 000 monthly income and $ 204 in CalFresh benefits.
In this Tuesday’s presentation, the Executive Office, in consultation with the county attorney, will also be asked to reach agreements with a research institution to offer advice on the benefits that this program would bring or study its potential effectiveness .
The motion highlights that the current pandemic experienced by the coronavirus left the inequalities that exist in our economy and that have become a matter of life and death for many of the county’s older residents vulnerable.
The application of this pilot program would not affect for the selected young people to continue receiving the general aid supports that they currently receive.
