California Governor Gavin Newsom assured Thursday that his administration is implemented various security measures ahead of the preparations for the change of presidential administration and following the Capitol riots last week.
In a short message published on his social networks, the governor announced that an initial battalion of 1, 000 National Guard troops would be deployed in the state.
“There will be no tolerance of violence, therefore, together with the CHP and the emergency services, we have activated the National Guard to increase security on the perimeter of the Capitol ”, informed the president.
In the message published, Newsom assured that the state was making use of these resources to protect public safety, public infrastructure and to guarantee the rights of the First Amendment protest, however, stressed that they would not tolerate any type of violence.
“ We will respond to any potential act of violence or disturbances, before or during the opening ceremony ”, emphasized Newsom.
In addition, the Democrat assured that his administration is working together with federal and state security authorities to share intelligence information and identify possible threats. Previously, the FBI would have warned of possible armed demonstrations.
The California Capitol will have from this Friday a security perimeter protected by the National Guard.
