Tyson Foods chicken recall for possible Listeria contamination grows to nearly 9 million pounds of meat according to updated data from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service.
Tyson chicken recall announced on July 3 went from 8, 492, 832 pounds to approximately 8, 955, 296 pounds. These are frozen and fully cooked chicken products that were produced between 26 December 2020 and 13 April 2021.
The massive recall comes after an epidemiological investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in conjunction with state authorities, found that Three people from Delaware and Texas became ill from chicken meat, one of whom died. This happened between April 6, 2021 and June 5, 2021.
Sick people in this outbreak ate food that was served to them in a long-term care facility or hospital.
Products had been shipped throughout the United States to retailers and institutions, including hospitals, nursing facilities, restaurants, schools, and Department of Defense locations.
Food recalled are frozen and fully cooked chicken products , such as chicken strips, shredded chicken , diced chicken, chicken wing sections, and diced chicken, as well as fully cooked chicken products , supplied by Tyson Foods Inc. Chicken products include pizza and chicken salad sandwiches.
Brands include Tyson, Jet’s Pizza, Casey’s General Store, Marco’s Pizza, Little Caesars and Circle K
Products subject to recall have the establishment number “EST. P – 7089 ” in product bag or within the USDA mark of inspection.
Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is concerned that some products may be in institutional and consumer freezers. The CDC advises people not to eat any recalled products. Throw it away or return it to the place where it was purchased.

About listeriosis
Eating food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis. Listeriosis can be a serious infection that especially affects some groups of people , such as those who have weakened immune system, pregnant women, newborns and adults of 65 years and older.
Listeria can cause common symptoms of food poisoning, such as diarrhea and fever . A severe listeria infection is an invasive infection that spreads beyond the intestines. Symptoms of a serious illness usually begin 1 to 4 weeks after eating contaminated food. They can also start up to 10 weeks later.
Pregnant women generally experience fever, fatigue, and muscle aches. Listeria can lead to pregnancy loss or premature labor. It can also cause serious illness or death in newborns.
People who are not pregnant may experience headache, stiffness in the neck, confusion, loss of balance and seizures, as well as fever and muscle aches.
