Enrique degrades to a tropical storm and leaves flood damage in his wake

The cyclone Enrique degraded in the last hours of a category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale to a tropical storm and presents a displacement towards the Baja California peninsula causing rains in several states of Mexico, reported this Monday by the National Meteorological Service (SMN).

“Enrique now as a tropical storm is located off the coasts of Jalisco and Nayarit, its cloud bands cause intense rains at torrential points over western and southern states of the national territory ”, indicated the SMN in its report of the 16: 15 local time (21: 15 GMT).

“The rains could be accompanied by unloading gas, electricity and strong winds, in addition to increasing the levels of rivers and streams, landslides and floods in low areas of land, ”said the entity.

The cloud bands of this system cause heavy rains torrential in Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán and Guerrero ; intense in Chihuahua and Durango, as well as very strong in Sonora.

In addition, winds with gusts of 70 to 90 kilometers per hour on the coasts of Jalisco and Nayarit, which will cause waves of 4 to 6 meters of significant height on the coasts of Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán , and 2 to 4 meters high on the coast of Sinaloa, the report added.

The authorities called to “extreme precautions to the general population in the areas of the states mentioned by rains, wind and waves.”

According to the forecast, Enrique will remain in the next few hours as a tropical storm as it heads towards the Baja California peninsula, where it would make landfall on the morning of 30 June as a tropical storm.
