The man who jumped from a plane at LAX is Mexican and faces 20 years in prison

A Mexican citizen was charged with federal charges for obstructing last Friday the process of taking off a plane in the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) when opening the emergency door and jumping out of the aircraft, reported the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Luis Antonio Victoria Domínguez, from 33 years old, a native of La Paz, Mexico, was accused of interfering with the work of flight crew members and attendants on a flight that was to leave Los Angeles bound for to Salt Lake City, Utah, the DOJ explained in a statement late Monday.

The incident occurred on Friday night , when a United Express aircraft operated by SkyWest Airlines was heading towards the runway to to take off.

Victoria Domínguez allegedly got up from the post, disobeying orders to stay seated and approached the cockpit, banged on the door and attempted to enter this restricted space .

When she couldn’t get into the cockpit, Victoria Domínguez pushed a flight attendant and went to the emergency exit on the right side of the plane, where she managed to open the door slightly, causing the slide The emergency inflatable was partially deployed, according to the federal criminal complaint.

Then the man jumped to the asphalt. The plane stopped and the emergency team responded to treat Victoria Domínguez, who suffered a broken leg in the fall .

The Mexican underwent surgery and is recovering at a city hospital.

DOJ said Victoria Domínguez is expected to make an appearance in front of the US District Court. .US in Los Angeles later this week.

Interference charge with flight crew members and attendants carries a maximum legal penalty of 20 years in a federal prison .

The FBI is investigating the incident in collaboration with the Los Angeles Airport Police Department.
