“People don't want to work”, Taquería suffers from a lack of taqueros

A taqueria in San Diego California is suffering from a lack of staff, specifically taqueros , who did not apply to fill one of the vacancies and despite the fact that the salary is attractive , according to the manager of the place



This is the business called “Tacos El Gordo” , which according to manager Jackeline Ponce no people come to apply as taqueros, even though they offer a good salary and benefits.

“No, we don’t have tacos. They do not get to apply. They pay very well, we have good benefits, but people don’t want to work. There are no taqueros ”, said the manager of the establishment

And that lack of staff has prevented the taqueria from being able to open every day, in addition to being affecting also being able to open another branch.

“We cannot open branches every day. We have to close one day and downton we cannot open because we lack taqueros ”, lamented Ponce before the correspondent in San Diego of Imagen Televisión.

Given the lack of staff, the taqueria must close every Tuesday, despite the demand they have of customers, who love to savor the diversity of tacos offered on site.

According to the information provided by the manager, a taquero in San Diego, California earns up to $ 1, 000 dollars per week , so for the manager it is a good deal that she offers “Tacos El Gordo”.

However, the manager regrets that no people come to request the job.



Indicates that the taquero is a very specific activity , and they have even had people who arrive without knowing the trade, but are learning, however, in these times they are suffering in the business, due to the lack of specialized personnel.

For the manager Ponce, the essential thing is that they have the desire to work, already that even if they have no experience, they give them training.

“Let them know about tacos, we have received people who do not know Nothing, here they can be taught, and we also pay for their training, they need the desire to work, “said Ponce.

” The regular schedule that u n taquero with us are around 50 hours per week; are paid 20 dollars per hour, up to $ 1,000 or more Ponce said.

“Tacos El Gordo”, originally appeared in the Mexican city of Tijuana, on the border with California, and with the passage of time it opened branches in California.

“Now with the crisis of the pandemic our problem has worsened. There are people who got sick. There are no people coming to apply and we are having a lot of problems hiring staff ”, highlighted Nora González, taqueria manager.

According to González, a taquero has to be patient, have knowledge of knives and be willing to learn, “You need that Mexican flavor” .



Ricardo Celsi, one of the local taqueros, trusts that the next months many job applications are received so that the business can open every day and be able to open more branches.

“It is a matter of time, we hope that in the coming months we will receive many requests,” said Celsi.
