After 59 Years of business, thousands of meals and satisfied customers, Price’s Chicken Coop, Charlotte’s iconic fried chicken restaurant, is closing this weekend.

Steven Price, its owner, said: “It’s time. There is a time and a season, ”during an interview on local television surrounded by an influx of diners.

The restaurant made the announcement on Facebook on Thursday, saying that the last day of operation will be this Saturday 19 of June. Owners attributed the closure to current labor shortages and rising food costs as factors in the decision.

Since last year consumer demand for chicken skyrocketed amid the coronavirus pandemic because Americans have been buying more meals and chicken sandwiches at fast food restaurants like KFC, McDonald’s and Popeyes.

On social media, the business thanks all its customers for their support over the years. Upon hearing the news, customers lined the street since Thursday for one last chance to eat their delicious fried chicken.

Price’s Chicken Coop joins the list of small local businesses that have closed their doors in Charlotte’s Southend neighborhood. According to a local media report, the area has experienced real estate development generating new residences, the arrival of new retail businesses and franchise establishments.
