The tragic accident occurred around 10: 20 am on the Interstate 5 Highway in San Ysidro, a few miles from the Mexican border . The names of the officers were not released yet.

According to authorities, a Honda Civic car driven by a woman was going the wrong way in the lanes heading south of I-5. The crash caused the sedan to ignite.

The fatal crash occurred almost simultaneously with a horrific crash in the Los Angeles area that killed two women and two children.
