The mortal victim and the suspect in the shooting at the Agua Dulce fire station , north of Los Angeles County, were in the middle of a dispute when the events occurred this Tuesday , according to sources in the county that cites Los Angeles Times .

Both were partners at the station 81 of the Los Angeles County Fire Department and, although worked different shifts, lived in the same area . The reason they were at odds probably had to do with management and maintenance of the workplace, according to the source of the Los Angeles newspaper with knowledge of what happened.

The confrontation became more tense during the morning of Tuesday, when the shooter shot and killed the firefighter and seriously injured the captain who tried to avoid the tragedy .

At the station 81, there are only four firefighters in the 24 hours each shift lasts, according to department head Daryl Osby. Osby, who has worked there, described it as a “small, hometown type fire station, very quiet, very picturesque” and said that he regards it as a home for service workers.

“As a general rule, people on that shift would have a good employment relationship , ”the county fire chief told Times . “Obviously something went wrong with that relationship today,” he added.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the motive for the attack remains under investigation.

In a commemorative event held on Tuesday night, the victim’s family identified him as Tory Carlon, a man from 44 years married with two daughters . Carlon wore 20 years in the fire department, he was a specialist and he drove one of the trucks.

After shooting him and the captain in the torso, the perpetrator of the shooting would go home in Acton, about 10 miles from the fire station, set the property on fire and end his own life .

Although authorities said they couldn’t say for sure what happened to the suspect, the house was on fire until Tuesday afternoon and a lifeless body lay in the empty pool. Records indicate the property is in the name of a veteran county firefighter.

We’re pretty sure he’s our shooter , but not we can say it with 100% Confidence, ”Lieutenant Brandon Dean of the Sheriff’s Homicide Office said during Tuesday’s press conference.
