Vietnam asks the US for help to supply vaccines against COVID-19 due to the increase in infections

The President of the Republic of Vietnam, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, has written a letter to his American counterpart, Joe Biden , to ask you for help with the import and production of vaccines against COVID – 19 , which suffers in Vietnam its worst outbreak since the beginning of the pandemic, local media reported this Monday.

The Vietnamese head of state felic honored Biden for his contributions to the fight against the pandemic around the world, with announcements like the one in the past 17 of May, when he said that by the end of June the US would donate 80 millions of vaccines a developing countries.

Vietnam has received so far 2.5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine out of the total of 38 .9 million doses that it has committed to with the Anglo-Swedish firm and Pfizer and is working to develop its own vaccine, which could begin mass production in September.

Success of Vietnam in curbing the advance of the virus has not been replicated in the vaccination campaign, which progresses slowly and so far only slightly more than a million Vietnamese have been inoculated with the drug among a population of 96 millions.

The Indochinese country registers its worst wave of infections in recent weeks, reaching record numbers in daily cases, and which worries the authorities, who have so far managed to contain the spread of the virus .

Since the fourth wave was unleashed, the past 27 of April, Vietnam has registered 4, 100 domestic infections spread over 34 his 63 provinces, with the provinces of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang, in the north, as the main foci.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the country accumulates 7, 693 cases, including 54 killed by the crown virus.
