New deaths rise to 47 the official death toll recorded in that period, including two policemen.
One of the most serious events occurred in the area known as La Luna where a man, identified as Fredy Bermúdez, shot several protesters and killed one of them.
Bermúdez was later attacked and lynched by the people who were in the sector, which caused his death a few hours later in a hospital in Cali.
The Attorney General of Colombia, Francisco Barbosa, admitted this same Friday that Bermúdez was an active member of the prosecution, but that at the time of the attack he was on rest.
The mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina explained that another death occurred due to the confrontation between a group of people who were blocking a road and another group that wanted to cross through the barricade.
“ We cannot allow these circumstances to continue to occur in Cali . We must not fall into the temptation of violence and death. On the contrary, justice and dialogue are the concepts that must operate and they are complementary, ”said Ospina when condemning the violent acts.
Live broadcasts by Cali journalist Willfrank Arango, Known as Jahfrann, they appear to show civilians firing on the side of the police what appear to be firearms.
Meanwhile, a new attempt at dialogue between the government and the Committee of the National Strike was frustrated this Friday after Iván Duque established that the roadblocks are “a non-negotiable point.”
The president traveled on Friday night to Cali to monitor the situation.
And at the end of a meeting with the main authorities of the region ordered by signing a decree military assistance not only for the city, the department del Valle del Cauca (province to which Cali belongs), but for seven other regions of the country.
The idea, explained the president , is that together with the army and the police, they coordinate to lift the blockades that exist on different roads in the country.
“This measure is so that the departmental leaders, districts and municipalities implement this legal instrument to face and overcome the events that give rise to the serious alteration of security and coexistence, in their respective jurisdictions, ”said Duque.
In Bogotá and other cities in the country, tens of thousands of people took to the streets again to protest against the government, police violence and inequality.
Cali, the third largest city in the country, has become one of the epicenters of the wave of anti-government demonstrations that began in the past 28 in April with a protest against a fiscal reform project of the government of President Iván Duque.
Although the legislative proposal was later withdrawn, the mobilization of rejection that it generated did not cease and the protesters continued to take to the streets to protest more fundamental problems.
