At least nine people died when an Alpine cable car cabin fell into the void that connects the stations of Stresa and Mottarone, in the Italian region of Piedmont, in the north of the country, while two children meet in serious condition, in an accident apparently caused by a broken cable.
The fall of the cabin, in which were traveling eleven people , it happened around at 13: 00 local times ( 10. 00 GMT) and produced in one of the highest points of the cable car, while mountain rescue teams and firefighters are in the area, according to reports medi Italians.

The two minors in serious condition, 9 and 5 years old, have been transferred by helicopter to the Hospital Queen Margaret of Turin, where they are being operated on for numerous fractures and trauma.
The accident took place at 300 meters from the arrival station, in Maottarone, and 1, 490 meters of altitude, when the cable gave way and the cabin crashed into a forest.

The cable car had been closed in 2014, completely renovated and reopened in 2016. After months of confinement due to the pandemic, it had reopened its doors in the past 24 of April.
