New torrential rains in Texas and Louisiana cause evacuations

A low pressure system that could turn into a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico has already brought heavy rains to Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana, where they have already died five people in recent days due to inclement weather, reported the National Weather Service (NWS).

The Governor of Louisiana , John Bel Edwards, said that of five people died in the storm, four drowned when they tried to cross overflowing waters with their cars.

The system would be renamed “Ana” or “Bill ”Depending on what happens to another storm system that continues to form in the Atlantic near Bermuda and, according to meteorologists, has a high probability of becoming a storm in the next 48 hours.

Evacuations were ordered at approximately 10 am CDT on Friday to from 300 to 350 homes in an area known as Bayou Pigeon , about 34 miles southwest of Baton Rouge in Iberville Parish.

“The water is coming and if we do not stop it very quickly it will flood many houses that historically were not flooded”, Sheriff Brett Stassi told weather.com on a phone call on Friday afternoon.

AquaDams are tubes filled with water that are used as barriers against floods . They come in segments that usually have 54 feet or 100 feet long and are made of two air chambers that fill with water at the site, according to The Advocate. The newspaper reports that the use of AquaDams has been controversial in the Baton Rouge area.
