VIDEOS: Violent earthquake in China leaves chaos and destruction in the area
A earthquake of magnitude 6.4 was registered in the Yunnan region, in southwest China , as reported by the Center for Seismological Networks of the Asian country.
The earthquake in China occurred at 21: 48 local time (13: 48 GMT) and its epicenter was located a few miles from the town of Dali, near the border with
Myanmar .

The earthquake had its epicenter at 14 miles from Yangnbi County of Dali Prefecture, to 25, 67 degrees north latitude and 99, 80 east longitude, with a depth 11 miles, according to the Center.

The earthquake in China was preceded by four other shocks in the same area between 2.8 and 5.6 degrees of magnitude, and in the next hour at least twelve other aftershocks of between 2.9 and 5.2 degrees of magnitude were recorded.

The Center added in its account of the social network Sina Weibo, Chinese equivalent from Twitter, that aftershocks are still being recorded and asked citizens living in the affected areas to keep away from buildings as much as possible.

No casualties have yet been reported for the earthquake in China , but around 100 firefighters came to the epicenter from Dali and other localities in the area to assess damage and participate in rescue tasks.
The Yunnan region, like neighboring Sichuan, is prone to earthquakes due to the friction of the Asian and Indian tectonic plates, although on many occasions these mo Winds have their epicenter in areas of low population density, such as the Tibetan plateau or the deserts of Central Asia.
