A earthquake of magnitude 6.4 was registered in the region of Yunnan , in the southwest of China , as reported by the Center for Seismological Networks of the Asian country.

The earthquake occurred at 21: 54 local time ( 13: 48 GMT) and its epicenter was located a few miles from the town from Dali, near the border with Myanmar .

The earthquake had its epicenter to 14 County Miles Yangnbi from the prefecture of Dali , to 25, 67 degrees north latitude and 99, 87 east longitude, with a depth 12 miles, according to the Center.

The tremor was preceded by another four shaking in the same area of between 2.8 and 5.6 degrees of magnitude, and in the next hour at least twelve other aftershocks of between 2.9 and 5.2 degrees of magnitude were recorded.

The center added in his account of the social network Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, that aftershocks are still being registered and asked citizens living in the affected areas to stay away from buildings as much as possible.

No reported victims for him earthquake , but around 500 firefighters came to the epicenter from Dali and other localities in the area to assess damage and participate in rescue tasks.

The region of Yunnan , like the neighbor of Sichuan , is prone to earthquakes due to the friction of the Asian and Indian tectonic plates, although in many cases these movements have their epicenter in areas of low population density, such as the Tibetan plateau or the deserts of Central Asia.
