NOAA predicts the new hurricane season will be very active for the United States

The United States could have another active season of hurricanes in the coming months.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration published on Thursday your forecast for the season of Hurricanes in the Atlantic 2021 , predicting a 60% chance of a higher than normal number of named storms .

NOAA’s outlook says there is a probability of 13 to 20 storms Named with sustained winds of at least 39 mph. And add that it is likely that 6 to 10 of them become hurricanes , and 3 to 5 can become hurricanes major Category 3 or higher.

Meteorologists predict a 60% from probability of a season above normal, a 30% chance of a near normal season and a 10% chance of a season below normal. However, Experts do not anticipate the historical level of storm activity seen in 2020 .

Above a typical hurricane season

Those numbers are above the recently adjusted “normal” figures of 14 storms Named, Seven Hurricanes and three hurricanes important in a typical season. Last month, NOAA updated the statistics used to determine when hurricane seasons are above, near, or below average relative to the last climate record .

According to this update, a season of hurricanes average produces 14 storms Named, of which 7 become Hurricanes , including 3 Hurricanes important.
