President Joe Biden took the final step for the Covid Hate Crimes Act to begin to apply – 19, which was approved by Congress a few days ago.

Before the endorsement of the president, the vice president Kamala Harris , lamented the attacks on Asians, including two women seniors who were stabbed while waiting for the bus, as well as a shooting in Atlanta where six women died.

The law was widely supported by Republicans and sets the route to investigate hate crimes, especially those targeting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Last Tuesday, the House passed with 364 votes in favor of the norm, but there were 62 Republicans who opposed it.

The proposal was promoted in the S Adopted by Democrat Mazie Hirono (Hawaii), who introduced her in March.

In the House, the plan was promoted by Representative Grace Meng (New York) , after expressing herself “exhausted” by the reports of attacks against Asian communities that she represents.

The law orders to assign an official of the Department of Justice to review and accelerate inquiries into coronavirus-related hate crime reports.

The law will also expand support to state and local law enforcement agencies, to that new guidelines be issued to address discrimination.
