To celebrate national tap dance day, the 25 May, and to honor the union between music and movement, the Los Angeles Music Center (135 N. Attendees will be able to experience what tap dance is in one of the 35 boards of different types, from specially constructed wooden sandboxes sprinkled with sand to newly developed prototype boards that use technology to amplify tap sounds. The Skirball Cultural Center ( 2022 N. The monumental piece features portraits of activists, prisoners of conscience and defenders of freedom of expression from around the world.
In the Skirball exhibition are included 83 of the 176 original portraits, each handcrafted from thousands of Lego pieces. For Ai, the portraits are tributes to the “heroes of our times”, some of them ordinary citizens who have stood up to the injustices of their communities. The walls are covered by a paper that the artist also designed, and is titled “The Animal That Looks Like a Llama but Is Really an Alpaca”. Although it looks like a decorative design, up close are hidden iconography such as handcuffs and surveillance cameras. Alpacas are pets of freedom of expression in Chinese internet culture.
