Japan will vaccinate first its Olympic athletes and then the rest of the population

Indignation and rejection has caused among the Japanese the government decision to vaccinate against Covid – 19 to the athletes who will compete in the Olympic Games , before the rest of the population.

According to the president of the Tokyo Organizing Committee 2020, Seiko Hashimoto , the Japanese athletes summoned to the Olympics will receive the vaccines from the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and BioNTech , as part of the agreement between these companies and the International Olympic Committee.

The decision has generated doubts among the athletes, since they do not know if it is legal for them to be applied first than the rest of the people.

What generates more rejection is that all this happens shortly after the strong rebound in coronavirus cases in Japan , a fact for which they even recommended the cancellation of the Olympics.

Hashimoto said at a press conference held this Wednesday, “ I want to create an environment where athletes do not feel bad or doubtful about being vaccinated “.

Although Japan began its vaccination plan last 15 , to date only 4% of the population have been vaccinated.

The measure of prioritizing athletes aims to “ protect Japanese citizens “, as said by the spokeswoman for the Tokyo Committee 2020 .
