Firefighters in Santa Barbara County , Southern California, were called to a house to perform an unusual task: to free a flock of birds that was in the chimney.

The authorities said that about 1, 000 birds were trapped in the chimney from a house in the community of Montecito last Sunday.

County firefighters and animal services workers waited to see if the birds flew out of the house overnight, but the next day they returned and the birds were still in the fireplace glued to the base mesh.

Montecito firefighters -the community that a few years ago was in the news for a fatal landslide – said animal services experts designed a hose-like conduit through which they made the birds exit the house through the back door.
