US forces say they killed two members of the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group and wounded another in Syria, with a “precision bombing.”

“The terrorists were moving a load of weapons that were destroyed in the bombing”which took place in the eastern province of Deir al Zur, the US Central Command (CENTCOM), which operates throughout the Middle East, said on social network X.

In that area, which until a few weeks ago was under the control of the Syrian regime and the Russian forces that supported it, US forces already carried out a similar bombing last Thursday in which a senior IS official named Abu Yusif was killed. , alias ‘Mahmud’.

According to CENTCOM, There are about 8,000 IS members detained in different prisons in Syriaand one of the objectives of the jihadist group is precisely to force his release.

Last Thursday, Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick S. Ryder stated that US troops in Syria had doubled shortly before the fall of former President Bashar Al Assadand which currently number 2,000 people.

Ryder ruled out that the intention of the US troops was anything other than to fight the Islamic State and indicated that the stay of these troops would be temporary, a statement that makes more sense taking into account President-elect Donald Trump’s well-known position of disengaging of conflicts that he considers foreign.

The presence and activity of IS in Syria at this time of transition is one of the factors that most worries the international community, and even the United Nations; UN Secretary General António Guterres praised Türkiye’s role in preventing IS from reinforcing its presence in the Arab country.
