Judge Aileen Cannon set the trial date for Ryan Wesley Routh for September 8, 2025, accused of attempting to assassinate the president-elect last September. of the United States, Donald Trump, on a golf course in Florida when he was a candidate.

Routh’s defense had asked federal magistrate Aileen Cannon to postpone the start of the trial, which was scheduled for February 10, given the “magnitude” of the case.

In response, the judge established that Routh will be tried in Fort Pierce on September 8, 2025, almost a year after the assassination attempt near West Palm Beach.

Routh’s defense argued that he has yet to analyze information from 18 cell phones, three desktop computers, three tablets and five hard drives, among others.

Routh is accused of attempting to assassinate Trump while Trump was playing golf at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on September 15, 2024.

Court documents state that before coming into view of Trump, Routh was seen by a US Secret Service agent, who shot him.

Routh fled the scene and was eventually captured on Interstate 95 in Martin County by Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputies.. Routh faces federal firearms charges and one count of attempted murder.

On September 30, Routh pleaded not guilty to the five charges he faces, including attempted murder of a major presidential candidate, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime, and assault on a federal official.

Routh, who in a handwritten letter acknowledged his intention to commit the crime and regretted having failed, could face a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.
