Jim Pillen, governor of Nebraska, He suffered a serious fall while riding a horse and due to the injuries he sustained, he was transferred to a hospital where he is in intensive care.

The 68-year-old Republican He remains at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, where, as a result of an injured spleen, he underwent a surgical procedure.

The doctors in charge of the state president’s surgery indicated that he was sedated for approximately an hour to stop the bleeding from his spleen, using a procedure called coil embolization.

Hillman Terzian, the trauma surgeon in charge of the procedure, indicated that the governor had a wire inserted into the arteries near his spleen and coils were inserted to contain the internal bleeding he was experiencing.

“We don’t expect anyone with their injuries to be able to run a marathon again the next day, but we like them to be out of bed, to show us that they can pick up small objects, that kind of thing,” said the specialist who ruled out signs of any damage to Pillen’s nervous system or any signs of injury to his head, neck or spinal canal.

Despite presenting seven fractured ribs, a partially collapsed lung, a minor fracture in one of his vertebrae and a kidney injury, which is expected to heal on its own, the doctors in charge of Jim Pillen agreed that the prognosis for recovery is positive.

The governor’s office issued a statement thanking him for the timely medical attention he received to get him through.

“Governor Pillen, First Lady Suzanne and his family are extremely grateful to the teams at Nebraska Medicine, Columbus Community Hospital and the EMS professionals who transported him after the accident.

The governor hopes to return to his office soon after Christmas and wishes a blessed and safe holiday to all Nebraskans,” part of the letter states.

It should be noted that Jim Pillen’s love for horses stems from the fact that, years ago, he worked as a veterinarian and before becoming governor, in January 2023, he owned a livestock farm.
